Maxey deep pit Etton Rd 14th Jan 2009 Afternoon till dusk.

Lack of usual waders due to the high level of water here at present. Nevertheless 24 species seen including flock of golden plover overhead, peregrine falcon, yellow hammers and reed buntings. A large flock of goldfinches 40+ birds feeding on tussocks and a large flock fieldfares, perhaps as many as a 100 on the grassy areas of the marsh. Every now and then both flocks would take to the air before returning to ground. Stayed till dusk but no sign of a
