Our garden in Helpston
The snowy weather has certainly increased the activity of the birds in the garden. Particularly Fieldfares which have been visiting daily eating the remaining berries and have been glad of the apples we have been putting out for them. We counted 25 birds in the garden on one afternoon.Tree sparrows continue to be attracted to the seed feeders with numbers now in double figures. The main excitement has been with one of our roosting pockets though. We have one lodged between the down pipe and brickwork at the side of the house under the guttering. My wife spotted the activity first as this pocket can be viewed from our sun room. About 5pm each evening wrens start appearing on nearby branches and one by one they enter the pocket. The maximum we have counted staying the night is 8 birds. However even though there is no more room at the inn usually 2 or 3 more birds try to get in.
