Wild Play at Swaddywell - 18 February

Despite dull rainy weather there was a fantastic turnout when nearly 60 parents and children visited Swaddywell Pit on February 18th for a half-term Wild Welly Walk. This was part of the Wild Play project organised by The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Peterborough.

The Trust’s Play Officer Becky Naman, assisted by Samanta Mapfumo, Community Officer for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Biological Records Centre, skillfully managed the large party. They helped children collect items to decorate a ‘crown’ and to recognize animal tracks and droppings. The highlight for many was pond dipping. It was amazing to find so many creatures less than a week after the water had been covered in ice.

The Langdyke Trust was pleased to host this event at Swaddywell.
