Barn Owl and Sand Martin

There was a very disconsolate and bedraggled barn owl sitting on a dead branch of a tree near the Maxey Cut this morning at 6.30 - with both wings outstretched, trying presumably to dry its feathers in between down-pours. It looked very sad!

More happily, around 150 sand martins in the air and sitting on wiresaround the main colony south of the cut - lots of activity and buzzing.

Singing garden warbler and cuckoo in the old pits complex.
