Blue Lunch - Friday 19 June

Friday 19 June was a beautiful summer's day and I took the chance to take my lunch out to our reserve at Bainton Heath and sit quietly by the large pond there, watching the world go by.

I was joined by a host of blue. Blue is not a particularly common colour in nature, but it was the dominant colour of my lunch. There were thousands of common blue damselfly swarming across the pond, joined by blue tailed and red-eyed damsels and the occasional banded demoiselle. A quite stunningly colourful sight.

And they were joined by another vision of blue as a kingfisher whizzed by, cutting across the pond and perching nearby for twenty minutes, happily enjoying its lunch too and then preening carefully.

Later another bit of blue as a male hobby flew over the main heath area, calling loudly.
