Two recent sightings of barn owl to report:
Richard Keymer saw one last Saturday 16 January, hunting over Torpel Manor Field. Barn owls used to nest in one of the trees on the site, so it is good to know they are still around.
And I caught one in the headlights hunting along the road verges east of Castor Hanglands last night at 7pm. I stopped the car (having carefully checked in the mirror that there was no-one behind!) and followed it for a good minute or so in the lights as it hunted back and forth with those characteristic stiff, blinking wing beats.
