Bustling Etton Maxey

Lots of bird activity this week at Etton Maxey. Bob Titman found a couple of whinchat near the southern end of the reserve earlier in the week and today John Saunders located a wood sandpiper, on its way to its breeding grounds in the Arctic Circle. The male marsh harrier is also still hanging around and this morning as it quartered the meadows it put up a total to ten lapwing - so perhaps we have five pairs on site. The common terns are busily trying to muscle onto the rafts, which are mainly occupied by black headed gulls and there are four little ringed plovers still, although they can be hard to find as they scurry around on the mud. Plus skylark, reed bunting and noisy sedge warbler - very vibrant. .
