It was a welcome sight to find 24 goosander on the main pit at Old Maxey Pits this morning, including eleven of the stunning males. Later in the day there were at least 18 at Bainton Pits, on the main pit, which was largley unfrozen and also on the first pit at the entrance, along with 5 goldeneye.
There was also a woodcock by the side of the Orchid Pit. Two siskin at Maxey earlier.
The cold weather is now into its eighth day - the first snow was last Saturday. Since then I haven't seen much of particular interest, apart from two barn owls hunting north of Hilly Wood barn.
