I walked along the Maxey Cut yesterday evening and this morning (16 and 17th May).
Two little ringed plovers, 2 oystercatchers and a single common sandpiper on the shores of the pit, south of the bridge across the cut. Plenty of sand martins in the air around their extensive colony in the gravel banks of the deep area of new working.
This morning the little ringed plover still, as well as a yellow wagtail, a turtle dove purring from the old pits and a buzzard overhead.
A red kite soaring over the Heath Road paddock on the way back.
