Great news about the Lessor Redpolls in your garden Richard....Very envious especially has i haven't seen any for several years.
I was also pleased to here you have some tree sparrows back. We have a small flock of about 30 in the paddock next door and i counted 8 on the garden feeders when we did the RSPB bird count on Saturday. They have been daily visitors to the garden again this winter, since the start of the snow, prior to christmas. The other birds of note on the count were 2 redwing, 1 fieldfare, green and great spotted woodpeckers and 2 reed bunting.
We also have a flock of between 30 and 40 goldfinches roosting in a large buddlea bush half way down the garden. They start congregating and flying around making a lot of noise from about 3.30pm before settling down just before dusk.
