Swallows and other migrants

There has been a noticeable influx of our summer migrants over the Easter weekend, with a single swallow along the Maxey Cut on 5 April and another this morning near Royce Wood. Two blackcaps were singing in the wood too.

There were also two yellow wagtails on the Sand Martin Pit south of the Maxey Cut on Saturday 3 April, along with 2 little ringed plover, an oystercatcher and 3 green sandpiper. Lots of sand martin over head too, although their colony may have to move again this year as Tarmac are filling in the wall they used last year.

Red kites and buzzards seem to be around in good numbers again and very visibile. There were two kites at the Hanglands on Easter Sunday.
